I appeared on The McLaughlin Group a dozen times, and the best part of the show was waiting to get my makeup done. With one makeup for five people, there was a lot of downtime, and I sat in awe of the panelists telling me about their storied lives. No one told a better story than Pat Buchanan, and his face never lit up more than when he talked about his 1996 campaign and Richard Nixon.
He said that Nixon made the most remarkable political comeback in American history after losing the 1960 election, only to go on and win a 49-state landslide in 1972.
Well, no offense to President Nixon, but I think Donald Trump has him beat.
