This election cycle decides the majority in the Senate with both Republicans and Democrats looking to gain a clear majority instead of the 50-50 split.
In the beginning of the year, a Republican majority seemed like a sure thing but in the last few months that dream has fallen apart. Poor candidate recruitment, being out-fundraised, bad poll numbers, and a change in the political environment has benefited Democrats in the Senate in a way it hasn’t helped them in the House. As of now, most political experts believe the Democrats will lose the House and gain seats in the Senate (like Republicans did in 2018.)
Now all hope is not lost, as we get into the final bend of the campaign, voters who aren’t political nerds like me (and you if you’re reading this) are finally beginning to pay attention.
So how do Republicans get to that magic 51 seats in the Senate, here’s a breakdown by the numbers.
