Right before the midterm election, the Centers for Disease Control released the early birth and death data for the first six months of 2022 and like the previous year, America is experiencing a spike in births.
As of June 2022, there were 13,000 more births than in 2021. An estimated total of 1,765,000 this year vs. 1,752,000 the year prior.
Yet the spike in births isn’t even across the country. They’re highly concentrated in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and pockets of the Southwest. A handful of other states like Indiana, Washington, Minnesota, Vermont, and Maine also experienced an increase in fertility. For the most part though the Northeast, Midwest, and the Prairie states also saw their numbers decline.
