Biden and the Immigration Backlash
Share

There’s a subtle change going on in American politics that few commentators or analysts have picked up on. The US is becoming increasingly hawkish on immigration, moving the furthest right on the topic than at any time since the presidency of Barack Obama, but it’s happening much faster.

Obama and Biden share many positions on immigration. They both favor increasing the legal limit of immigrants entering the US, they both favor amnesty for those here illegally, and both hold the standard Democrat position that immigration makes the US a better country. Where they differ is on the border. While Obama certainly saw waves of caravans entering through the southern border, he actually tried to have some control over the waves of illegal aliens and migrants coming to the US. Believe it or not, Obama was substantially better at reducing the number of migrants coming to the US through the southern border than either George W. Bush or Bill Clinton.

Joe Biden on the other hand isn’t even trying. He’s all but declared a fully open border for the world’s population including gang members, human traffickers, and terrorists. The scandal of how Biden has failed to protect America’s borders should be an impeachable offense but that’s a substack post for a different day.

Americans have taken notice. Immigration is one of Biden’s worst issues politically, one that Republicans haven’t taken enough advantage of in the midterm elections. Pollsters however are noticing a drastic shift in not only their voter’s feelings about Biden’s handling of illegal immigration but their desire for lower levels of legal immigration.
