Immigration
It’s the beginning of a new Congress, but for Senate Democrats, that means starting it off just like the old Congress regarding immigration. Maine’s Angus King appeared on CBS News to say any package on securing the border should include amnesty for millions of illegals and expanding legal immigration levels passed the 1.5 million we already take in. This is an important note because King is supposed to be one of the more moderate voices in the Democrat Party, certainly one of the 11 votes needed to get to 60 to pass a bill. Yet, King seems to hold the line that anything related to the border must include provisions for amnesty and expanding mass immigration. It also doesn’t help that King may retire in 2024 when he’ll be 80 years old. (Breitbart)
Breitbart News reported that President Biden has granted temporary protected status (TPS) to thousands of migrants from Somalia who otherwise would be deported. A total of 2,600 Somalians received TPS, allowing them to live and work in the US for at least 18 months. TPS was created to temporarily offer protective status for people living in the US while their country recovered from war or natural disasters. However, it has since been used by every president, including Trump, as a de-facto amnesty.
New York City signed a $275 million contract to house 5,000 migrants in the Big Apple, $55,000 per migrant for those who don’t have a calculator. NYC now spends more on housing migrants from overseas than it spends on rental assistance for poor New Yorkers. (The New York Post)
Crime
Jackson, Mississippi, is famous for two things – a shoutout in Bruno Mars’ hit song “Uptown Funk” and being the murder capital of America for two consecutive years in a row. The city of just 153,000 people recorded 133 homicides in 2022, down from 153 in 2021. Still, that means that the homicide rate per capita is 88.8, more than double the amount in Honduras, South Africa, and Mexico. The top ten cities for the most homicides are as follows:
Jackson, Mississippi - 133 homicides (88.8 per capita)
New Orleans, Louisiana - 280 homicides (74.3 per capita)
Birmingham, Alabama - 144 homicides (72.9 per capita)
St. Louis, Missouri - 200 homicides (68.2 per capita)
Louisville, Kentucky - 160 homicides (65 per capita)
Baltimore, Maryland - 334 homicides (57.9 per capita)
Baton Rouge, Louisiana - 115 homicides (51.8 per capita)
Detroit, Michigan - 307 homicides (48.5 per capita)
Cleveland, Ohio - 171 homicides (46.5 per capita)
Memphis, Tennessee - 302 homicides (46.5 per capita)
The conversation about homicides falls into two tired talking points in political circles. Republicans talk about how these cities have failed because they’re run by Democrats, while Democrats say the problem is most of these cities are in red states with lax gun laws. The truth is an ugly one that people don’t want to face, but it stems from the high level of criminality coming out of the black community in these cities. In all these cases, black criminals are vastly overrepresented. Even in a city like Louisville, Kentucky, which is only 22 percent black, over 65 percent of suspects and 77 percent of victims are black as of 2019.
The NYPD is witnessing the worst exodus of police officers since 9/11, according to The New York Post. The NYPD saw 3,701 cops retire or resign in 2022, the most since the post-9/11 exodus in 2002, when 3,846 cops left the department. Pension fund numbers reveal the 2022 exits are 32% more than the 2,811 who retired in 2021. Police blame the bail reform as well as the vaccine mandate.
NBC News reported that San Francisco police will no longer release mug shots to curtail racial bias. The truth is that Democrat politicians don’t want voters to know that black criminals are vastly overrepresented in violent and property crimes. It has caused a massive headache for them in the post-BLM world, where Asian and Hispanic voters are leaving them over the issue of crime and their coddling criminals. They’re hoping people won’t notice, but in an age of social media and smartphones, everyone’s security camera video catching crime is a campaign commercial against Democrats.
