Immigration

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that he is investigating whether the Dallas Police Department refuses to assist in enforcing federal immigration law. (Dallas Morning News)
DC District Judge James Boasberg, appointed by President Obama, blocked President Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. Trump planned to use the act to target members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan prison gang, and authorize expedited removal of all Venezuelan citizens 14 and older deemed to be members of the organization who are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. Trump Administration
President Trump is considering a travel ban on 43 countries, with 11 wholly banned. Another 10 will have visas severely restricted, and 22 have concerns over and will be reviewed in 60 days to see if the vetting process can be made more thorough, or they too will receive full or partial bans. There will unquestionably be a lawsuit if Trump moves forward with his plan, but the Supreme Court already ruled in Trump v. Hawaii during his first term that he has a right to sign this kind of executive order. (The New York Times)
