Immigration
Sens. Dick Durbin and Lindsay Graham unveiled their newest plan to amnesty 2 million illegal aliens. The DREAM Act would allow the estimated 2 million DACA recipients green cards and, eventually, naturalized American citizenship. It’s hard to overstate how tone-deaf Lindsay Graham is. His amnesty proposal comes as 5 million illegal aliens have entered the country under President Biden, and a record percentage of Republicans want to reduce immigration levels into the US. It is even more shocking given that Graham is a vocal supporter of President Trump’s 2024 campaign, holding events with him in South Carolina. (Breitbart News)
Nearly 64 percent of the migrants who have arrived on buses from Texas are still in the city’s homeless shelter system. Specifically, nearly 30,000 border crossers and illegal aliens remain in 91 shelters across the city. The estimated cost of these migrants to New York City is an astounding $4 billion over the next two years. (Breitbart News)
House Democrats announced they’re planning on boycotting the House Judiciary Committee’s hearing next week on the border crisis in Yuma, Arizona. Democrats claimed they were never consulted on the trip, which Republicans denied. The Democrats said they will conduct their own trip to the border in March. (Fox News)
A pair of Democrats running for the Chicago mayorship have announced their support for allowing illegal aliens to vote in the city. The candidates are Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson and Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. (Breitbart News)
Crime
COVID rules in California reduced the cost of bail in most of the state, often times to $0. A new study reported by Fox News found that repeat offenders in Yolo County who posted $0 bail were accused of hundreds of more crimes. The key findings from the study indicate suspects released without bail were rearrested on 163% more charges than those who posted bail, and they reoffended 70% more often. Those offenses resulted in felony charges 90% more often – and they were accused of three times as many violent crimes.
New York Magazine reported that the New York City Council’s progressive caucus has shrunk from 35 members to 20 because some of the members refused to sign a statement of principles that included a commitment to “do everything we can to reduce the size and scope of the NYPD and the Department of Correction.”
The New York Post reported that crime in New York City has the highest number since 2006. The data shows a record 172,852 felonies reported in 2022. That’s up 20.4% from 2021 when 143,522 complaints were recorded. In addition, while murder dropped, every other category of major crimes saw an increase, with 2022 ending with 126,588 serious offenses, a 22.4% jump from the year prior.
