The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that 15 illegal migrants from Russia and other former Soviet countries were smuggled in by boat into Key West, Florida, on Sunday. According to officials from Monroe County, the group that landed may have been a part of a much larger group of about 40 migrants traveling from Cuba. Although local officials are used to migrants from Cuba arriving on the shores of the Keys, this is the first that they have seen of migrants from Eastern Europe. Who knows, maybe if enough Russians come across our southern border, Democrats will want to do something to stop it. (Washington Post)
According to Buzzfeed News, the Biden administration – through ICE – is set to dismiss cases against illegal immigrants who are not “public safety threats” or those who did not cross the border recently. In contrast, the former Trump administration deemed anyone who crossed the border illegally – public safety threat or not – as a priority for arrest and removal. This means huge portions of the criminal alien population will not have face much retribution for being in the country illegally.
The border patrol agents who were falsely accused of whipping migrants have been cleared of criminal misconduct. Last September in Del Rio, Texas, images widely circulated of border patrol agents rounding up migrants where it was “perceived” as if they were whipping them. This was always believed to be a fake story with anyone who had an IQ above room temperature, but it’s good to see that at least they won’t receive any punishment. (Florida Capital Star)
According to Politico, many Democrats have been “alarmed” by the Biden administration’s “terrible” messaging when lifting Title 42 restrictions. This included many so-called “moderate” Democrats who are concerned about the lifting of the provision, including the four most vulnerable Senate Democrats — Sens. Mark Kelly (AZ), Raphael Warnock (GA), Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), and Maggie Hassan (NH). Even some Democrats who are not up for re-election like Jon Tester (D-MT) have expressed concern over the Biden administration’s decision.
According to Fox News, there is a proposed bill in the California state legislature that would permit non-U.S. citizens to either become a police officer or join the California Highway Patrol.
According to the Hill, A group of Senators is again talking about doing a bipartisan immigration reform bill, particularly Sens. Tom Tillis (R-NC) and Dick Durbin (D-IL). Durbin mentioned that his staff is working with John Cornyn’s (R-TX) staff as well. The content of what may be in the bill is yet to be determined. The chances of a bipartisan immigration reform bill before the up election is extremely unlikely, Republicans are not going to want to give Democrats an easy out right before the election or signal to their base that they’ll support any form of amnesty.
