US Customs and Border Protection finally announced the data for December 2022, and the numbers are startling. A total of 251,487 migrants were encountered at the US-Mexico border in December. This is the highest amount ever recorded in a single month. Since October 2022, 717,660 migrants have been encountered at the border and that doesn’t include gotaways, which CBP estimates are around 70,000. CBP also announced that 38 suspected terrorists have been caught at the border since October 1st. This means the US will likely surpass the number of suspected terrorists caught at the border last year, 98. This is an invasion on the scale of Russia invading Ukraine. Republicans must impeach Secretary Mayorkas and offer votes on a series of tough immigration enforcement bills. (Fox News)
The crisis at the border is completely deliberate. President Biden has orchestrated the invasion and said as much during his visit with Mexican President Lopez Obrador:
"People ... have to make it through jungles and a long journey to the border. And many are victimized, not only in terms of what they have to pay but victimized physically in other ways. And so, we're trying to make it easier for people to get here, opening up the capacity to get here, but not have them go through that godawful process."
The Washington Free Beacon reported that he has offered six "commitments" secured by the Mexican government. At the top of that list is a pledge to advance "diversity, equity, and inclusion," with Biden and López Obrador vowing to "promote racial justice," "expand protections for LGBTQI+ individuals," and "foster Indigenous-led growth." Second, on the list is a commitment to "tackle the climate crisis" and implement "ambitious cuts to emissions." Border security made the bottom of the list.
The migrant crisis has hit such a critical mass that New York City Eric Adams publicly pushed back against Biden, saying that America’s biggest city had “no more room.” Adams is demanding funds from Washington and relaxing work requirements so migrants can get a job while they wait for their court date. The city is facing a $2 billion hole in its budget and may start putting migrants on cruise ships docked outside the city’s harbor, Politico reported.
Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe has sent an all-hands-on-deck letter to sheriffs in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas asking for help at the border. “I am requesting any aide that your county may be able to provide in this border crisis, whether it be manpower, equipment, or operators.” (Fox News)
The Texas Tribune reported that Texas Senator John Cornyn is working on another bipartisan immigration proposal with Sens. Sinema, Murphy, Kelly, Tillis, Lankford, Coons, and Moran. But, of course, these are the last people on the planet you want anywhere near any immigration policy. Luckily, for the time being, any such bill is dead in the House because the concessions being demanded by Republicans would be too much of a poison pill for the AOC wing of the party, and the GOP won’t accept any form of amnesty.
