President Biden adopted a carrot-and-stick policy to slow the pre-election flood of Venezuelan illegal migrants. The plan offers the carrot of legal status, work permits, and eventually, citizenship, to 24,000 Venezuelans who apply at U.S. embassies instead of migrating up to the U.S. border. The colossal giveaway is paired with a threat of Title 42 expulsion back to Mexico for the Venezuelan migrants who walk across the mostly open U.S. border in search of jobs and a U.S. residency. (Breitbart News) This is kind of a quasi victory for border control in reaction to Govs. DeSantis and Abbott’s busing program to blue states. Yet Gov. DeSantis also had a major misstep. Texas’ Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, an elected Democrat, certified that the migrants DeSantis flew to Martha’s Vineyard were victims of a crime. This allows them to eligible for a U Visa, a special visa for migrants who come to the US and end up being victims of crimes (the fact that this visa even exists is insane). These migrants will now be eligible for a visa and eventually a green card. I’ve always been against bussing migrants to the interior of the country, it’s something that makes Republicans feel good without actually doing anything positive on immigration enforcement and this was a misstep on the part of DeSantis who hasn’t had many screwups.
A national-conservative group run by former top Trump officials, the Center for Renewing America, is proposing a formal U.S. declaration of war on Mexican cartels and a mechanism to shut down legal ports of entry based on estimates of undocumented crossings. The policy paper is being unveiled as Republicans seek to put President Biden on the spot and steer voters' focus from abortion rights to immigration and crime. (Axios) Declaring the Mexican Drug Cartel either an international terrorist group or going to war with them should have happened a decade ago. It is truly the only way we will ever stop the flow of drugs and people across the border. The government could take them out like they did Osama bin Laden. The only issue is that the Mexican government is a failed narco state that protects these people, so that could get messy. It’s still worth it.
A new report from the Center for Immigration Studies debunks studies by left-wing academics claiming that illegal immigrants have relatively low crime rates. Due to delays in identification, the number of recently convicted illegal immigrants are the most likely to be undercounted. Properly interpreted, the data suggests that illegal immigrants in Texas are convicted of homicide and sexual assault at higher rates than the state average.
In a statement departing from the views of his general constituents, Rep. Cindy Axne (D-Iowa) says the United States ought to import more foreign visa workers to fill blue-collar American jobs even as nearly 12 million Americans remain jobless. Axne said the number of foreign visa workers brought to the U.S. should be expanded beyond the already 1.5 million who arrive annually to take American jobs in white-collar and blue-collar industries.
