Advocates for amnesty are working on overdrive during the “lame duck” session of Congress taking place in December. They’re hoping to pass an amnesty for a million illegal aliens working in the agriculture industry. The Wall Street Journal reported that the bill, co-sponsored by Republican Mike Crapo and Democrat Michael Bennet, are looking for nine fellow GOP Senators to join them in supporting the amnesty. Farm laborers on H2-A visas are allowed to work for ten consecutive months before returning to their origin country. The new bill being forged by the Senate and House would qualify for more than 20,000 three-year H2-A visas. The bill would also require employers to use E-Verify as a trade-off for amnesty. Another provision of the House version would allow any illegal alien who can prove they have worked on a farm for the last two years to be eligible for a new visa called a certified agricultural worker visa. That would allow them to work legally in the U.S. for five years with the possibility to renew indefinitely. Ironically the American Farm Bureau Federation opposed the bill even though they have long supported amnesty because the tab would open them up to labor abuse lawsuits from migrants. They have exactly 42 days to get the bill passed. With the American Farm Bureau Federation opposing parts, it may be difficult. Kevin McCarthy has expressly said he would not bring this bill or any that included an amnesty up for a vote. Call your Senator and tell them you oppose any farm bill that includes amnesty (202) 224-3121.
Sen. Roger Marshall has issued a resolution in the Senate to block Biden’s change to federal immigration regulation known as “the public charge rule.” Marshall’s resolution would bar foreign nationals on welfare from receiving green cards. Biden undid Trump’s fortified public charge rule, ensuring American taxpayer foot the bill for welfare recipients seeking green cards, Breitbart News reported. For Marshall’s Congressional Review Act to take effect, it would need to pass the Democrat majority House and Senate, which is unlikely to happen. While most Americans disagree with Biden’s rule change, it’s important to note how much the President can unilaterally change immigration policy on his own, without Congress.
