According to Reuters, U.S. border officials have encountered 6,400 Russian nationals and a little more than 1,000 Ukrainian nationals from October 2021 to January of this year. The current Russia-Ukraine conflict may increase the number of Russians and Ukrainians who’ll travel to Mexico and attempt to cross the border illegally within the coming months. It is estimated more than 1 million refugees have fled Ukraine since the start of the conflict. Would-be migrants from Ukraine and Russia are swapping tips on social media on how to make the journey to the U.S. southern border via Mexico to claim asylum.
According to KURV 710, federal officials have indicted Rita Marine, 64, and Genaro Fuentes, 36, for allegedly running a decades-long child sex trafficking ring. The indictment accuses Martinez and Fuentes of “smuggling young women and girls from Mexico, forcing them to have sex with customers at their bar to pay off smuggling fees, and beating them if they stepped out of line.”
Despite the record levels of apprehensions and illegal crossings at the U.S-Mexico border, the Biden administration is proposing to send U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers from the Southern border to Poland to help aid the processing of Ukrainian refugees. According to a Biden administration memo, “said volunteers need to be ready to deploy within ‘2-3 business days of selection and should plan for about a months’ work overseas.” (FrontPage Mag)
Despite the Democrats promising green cards for the more than 85,000 Afghan refugees that have been settled in the U.S. since August of 2021, party lawmakers failed to include that provision in the spending package. Despite failing to include the green card provision, the Biden administration will continue to resettle Afghan refugees into the U.S. interior on a so-called “humanitarian parole” and Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs), according to Breitbart News. It appears from the government funding bill that Republicans must have fought against some of the Democrats more extreme provisions when it comes to immigration. If that is not the case, then it’s possible that even Democrats backed off because of the proximity to the election.
According to Buzzfeed News, senior officials in the Biden administration are looking for ways to ax the Title 42 provision that was used by the Trump administration during the height of the pandemic to fly illegal aliens back to their home country on the grounds they may be carrying a communicable disease. This basically the last portion of Trump’s immigration policy still being effectively used.
