A Clinton-appointed federal judge ruled that the Trump-era immigration policy Title 42 implemented as a public health measure in response to COVID was conducted improperly through the Administrative Procedure Act. Axios reported that Judge Sullivan granted a five-week delay before the policy ends. Title 42 has been used millions of times since Biden became President to stem the crisis at the border. Under Title 42, the government is allowed to return migrants across the border without a lengthy trial. The Biden Administration has decided not to appeal the decision, which is baffling. It’s hard to overstate what’s about to happen at the border, which is already under an invasion. We will see the most extraordinary surge of migrants coming across the border in our lifetime.
The number of international students entering the US has climbed by 3.8 percent during the 2021-2022 school year, 948,519 students compared to 914,095 from the year prior, The Wall Street Journal reported. China and India were the top two schools for international students, and the top destination was the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Associated Press reported that Chris Magnus, the head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, has resigned from his post given the Biden Administration’s failure to secure the U.S.’ southern border. Magnus faced an ultimatum of either retiring or being fired.
A report from the Independent Budget Office found that housing, education, legal aid, and healthcare for the estimated 17,500 migrants coming to New York City will cost the sanctuary city at least $600 million. If another 10,000 come next year, that price tag will balloon to about $850 million. (The New York Post) The costs to tiny towns along the Texas border are crippling their local budgets and are costing billions annually for border states.
ICE announced on Thursday that they conducted a series of sting operations from Oct. 22 and Nov 4 that led to the arrest of over 130 sex offenders. (Fox News)
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is invoking the “Invasion Clause” of the US and Texas State Constitution to deal with the situation at the border. This will involve the Texas governor sending national guardsmen and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel to the border to handle the situation. Abbott also says he will deploy gunboats to the border and declare the Mexican Drug Cartel an international terrorist group - a move desperately needed, as well as removing illegal aliens to the border. (Fox News) The conservative non-profit Citizens for Renewing America was quick to criticize the move because moving illegal aliens to the border is not using the Governor’s full constitutional authority. Under the invasion clause, Abbott can put illegal aliens back over the border and deport them himself, which he is unwilling to do. It seems to be a half measure to buy the Governor some positive press from conservative media as he questions whether or not he wants to run for president in 2024. This is a move Kari Lake would do had she won her election for Governor of Arizona, which she didn’t.
