The DOJ published a chart showing the number of illegal aliens who were no-shows for their removal proceedings hit an all-time high in Fiscal Year 2023. A record-breaking 159,379 aliens failed to appear as required before immigration judges. (Center for Immigration Studies)
ICE confirmed that it arrested a terrorist affiliated with the Somalia-based al-Shabaab terrorist group who entered the country in March 2023 and was allowed to roam free for nearly a year before being arrested in Minnesota. The Daily Caller reported that ICE arrested him within 48 hours of finding out about his presence in the U.S.
Congress voted on a bill to make drunk driving and Social Security fraud a deportable offense for non-American nationals. Both bills passed, but with 150 Democrats voting against the bill.
New York City, which is facing a massive budget shortage, announced a $53 million program for illegal aliens housed in the city’s hotels. The city will issue them $1,000 prepaid debit cards; migrants must sign an affidavit promising to only use the cards for food and baby supplies or else have them cut off. Bill Melugin tweeted that illegal border crossings have shifted away from Texas since Gov. Abbott’s crackdown on illegal aliens. Mexico has also stepped up enforcement on their side of the Texas-Mexico border following Secretary of State Blinken’s trip to Mexico back in December. In the last week of January, 72 percent of all illegal border crossings occurred in Arizona and California. The number of migrants crossing at Eagle Pass, Texas, has declined from about 3,000 per day to just 200.

Washington, D.C., created a pilot program to give 132 low-income mothers $10,800 over a year without strings attached. The Washington Post found that mothers spent mostly to catch up on debt, but some used it for expensive vacations and new clothes. The article details how almost every one of these women was a single mother, living on multiple government programs and having numerous children with different men.
A tech company named Gem is helping other tech companies filter out job applicants to reach race- and gender-based hiring quotas, which are illegal, according to the Commissioner of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Andrea R. Lucas. As one prospective client told Gem executives about what they were looking for with their software, “I need more black candidates this month.” (Pirate Wires)
