Three Mexican brothers identified as part of an investigation into the shocking killing of a North Carolina sheriff’s deputy were all in the country illegally — including one who was caught and released at the border under the Trump administration, according to The Washington Times. All three suspects sneaked into the country, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. One was first arrested while jumping the border as a juvenile in 2010 and was allowed to return to Mexico. Authorities don’t know when he sneaked back into the U.S.
The chief of the US Border Patrol blamed President Biden’s “no consequences” immigration policy for sparking the surge of illegal immigrants crossing into the US, according to a report. Chief Raul Ortiz made the frank admission that the administration’s lax policies are to blame in a recorded deposition that is part of a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody. The Biden administration is still allowing Afghans to reach the U.S. without checking them through a key Defense Department database that could help weed out national security risks, according to senators. Wednesday marks a year since the end of the final U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, yet lawmakers say they still haven’t received a full accounting of what happened in the chaos — including who, exactly, made it out of the country. The New York Post did this excellent story on how fentanyl makes it way through America and how our loose border and migration problem allows it to move throughout the United States. One of the killers named Arturo Marin Sotelo had previously been deported back in 2010 but re-entered the country. (Fox News)
Midterms
Sarah Palin lost her special election to Mary Peltola, making her the first Democrat to represent the state since 1973. Palin’s campaign suffered from a double-edged sword. First, national GOP groups like the Club for Growth and Americans for Prosperity rallied around Nick Begich even flying in door knockers to help him. He came in third but their endless attacks against Palin hurt her in the state’s new rank-choice voting system that was created to protect Lisa Murkowski. Secondly, the Palin campaign was run terribly. They refused to put her on much national TV, spent almost all their ads on digital media, and did little to reverse the narrative that she was a celebrity instead of a very accomplished former governor. I reached out to them several times telling them they needed to discuss how she broke up mass corruption by Democrats, Republicans, and big oil. The next election is just 63 days away and something needs to drastically change.
A piece by The New York Times details how many Republican general election candidates in competitive races have been distancing themselves from the debate on abortion, and from Trump. At least 10 Republican candidates in competitive races have updated their websites to minimize their ties to the former president or to adjust their stances on abortion.
States announced the change in voter registration, here’s a rundown of how they changed since January 1, 2021:
Here’s how voter registration changed in the last month:
The negative numbers don’t necessarily mean that voters have left the party, though that may be the case sometimes, it has more to do with states cleaning their voter rolls. It’s important to note two important trends, the number of Americans registering as independents is surging meaning neither party appears to be reaching voters on the most important interests. Secondly, when looking at voter registration over the last month it’s important to look at which party has the most excitement going into an election. People register for the party they’re most likely to support with Republicans have an edge in palces like New Jersey, Florida, and Pennsylvania while Democrats are gaining ground in Colorado, Delaware, and New Mexico.
