An Afghan national, resettled in the United States by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’s administration, was arrested in Oklahoma for allegedly plotting to carry out an ISIS-backed terrorist attack on Americans on Election Day. Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, the 27-year-old Afghan national, worked as a security guard for the CIA while in Afghanistan — a position that would have made him eligible to resettle in the U.S. via the Biden-Harris administration’s Operation Allies Welcome. A staggering 672,483 new EBT cards have been added to the Massachusetts welfare rolls in the last 14 months. The State Department of Transitional Assistance reported a 34.6 percent jump from July 2023 to last month. (Boston Herald)
A regional director for the National Labor Relations Board in Los Angeles issued the first formal complaint against Amazon’s treatment of its drivers. Most Amazon drivers don’t work for the e-commerce giant, but they work through third-party service partners. Amazon’s decision last year to terminate its contract because its drivers started organizing with the Teamsters Union. This court case could end up with Amazon drivers unionizing. The consumer price index increased 0.2 percent seasonally adjusted for the month, putting the annual inflation rate at 2.4 percent. Both were 0.1 percentage points higher than forecast. Excluding food and energy, core prices rose 0.3% monthly, putting the annual rate at 3.3%. Both core readings also scored 0.1 percentage points above forecast. (CNBC)
The Labor Department reported that applications for jobless claims jumped by 33,000 to 258,000 for the week of Oct. 3. That’s the most since Aug. 5, 2023, and well above the 229,000 analysts were expecting. States affected by Hurricane Helene were exceptionally high. (Associated Press)

In its first national survey, the Center for Disease Control found that 3.3 percent of high school students identify as transgender, and another 2.2 percent are questioning their gender identity. About two-thirds of the students identifying as transgender or questioning are female by birth, which would suggest that transgenderism has become a social contagion. Girls, especially teenage girls, are much more likely to suffer from mass psychogenic illness than boys. Depression, suicidal thoughts, and loneliness are prevalent among students who identify as trans. The study found that.
Among transgender students, 64.9 percent reported poor mental health in the past 30 days, and 71.9 percent reported persistent sadness or hopelessness in the past 12 months. Questioning students had a similarly high prevalence of these outcomes (53.3 percent and 68.9 percent, respectively)
