The president and CEO of the primary hospital in Yuma, Arizona, warned Thursday that migrants had overrun the hospital and that it could not afford to continue providing what he said has amounted to $26 million in unpaid medical care. The Biden Administration put forward a new rule on who can claim asylum. The policy mirrors the one Trump put forward in 2019, banning people who come through safe third countries like Mexico. Democrats are furious about the move but have little to say, given that it’s an executive order. The biggest question, however, will be if Biden enforces the law. (The Wall Street Journal)
North Carolina Rep. Dan Bishop gave a brilliant defense of our nation’s borders during a Congressional hearing at the border. He said, “Everyone wants his or her family to thrive. What we are talking about is not the stresses on the safety net, the provision of food for the people who can’t provide it for themselves, the provision of medical care, the jail, the detention services, and keeping the community safe. This is about how we maintain and protect a culture that has been the most successful in the world. That is what is at stake too… The first thing we must do to preserve this culture is restore order.”
Elections
The most important election this year is the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court election. The primary was this week when conservative Daniel Kelly and liberal Janet Protasiewicz came in the top two and will face each other on April 4th.
Kelly was the nominee in 2020 and lost by an eye-popping 11 points, underperforming President Trump by double digits. In the primary from this week, the two liberal judges received a lot more votes than the two conservatives - winning 53-47 percent statewide. It’s also important to note that turnout was sky-high. The map of where liberals outvoted conservatives in this primary looks like the 2020 map where Kelly lost to liberal judge Karofsky.
