Preliminary U.S. Customs and Border Protection data show that the number of illegal aliens crossing the southern border increased by 30 percent from June to July. According to The Washington Post, “U.S. agents made more than 130,000 arrests along the Mexico border last month, preliminary figures show, up from 99,545 in June. Authorities allowed an additional 50,000 migrants to cross into the United States in July, primarily through Biden administration programs allowing asylum seekers to schedule appointments at U.S. ports of entry using the CBP One mobile application.” The spike was primarily felt in the Tuscon sector of the border, where illegal entry into the U.S. has hit a 15-year high. It’s important to remember that Texas’ Governor Greg Abbott has deployed multiple tactics to thwart unlawful entry into the U.S. At the same time, Democrat Katie Hobbs has not done anything to push back against illegal immigration.
The Biden Administration’s continued expansion to let as many people into the country as possible is putting U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services into a precarious situation. According to Government Executive, “the 842,000 pending asylum cases are at an all-time high, and the number is expected to exceed 1 million in 2024. The higher-than-usual number of migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, coupled with global events such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan following the U.S. military’s withdrawal, has created dueling priorities that have exacerbated longstanding capacity concerns.” In the last three years, Biden has slashed wait times for people seeking naturalization, offered Temporary Protective Status to 700,000 people, and expanded humanitarian parole.
Maine’s Democrat Governor Janet Mills signed an executive order to establish a new migrant resettlement office. She intends to import 75,000 migrants to the state by 2029. Mills states these will be new workers to fill job vacancies throughout the state, but as it’s been proven throughout the U.S. and many countries in Europe, many asylum seekers drain the system. Also, 75,000 people is a population equal to the state’s largest city. (The Maine Wire)
New York City elected officials are considering housing migrants in Central Park and Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Other locations that could see tent cities go up include a YMCA in Park Slope, Brooklyn; a recreation center in Staten Island; the campuses of York College and Medgar Evers College; and the parking lot at Citi Field in Queens as possible shelter sites. Breitbart News reported that seven of the 19 men arrested for allegedly committing child sex crimes in Bay County, Florida were illegal aliens.
A 9th Circuit panel has paused a federal court order blocking the Biden administration’s asylum restrictions preventing some migrants from applying for humanitarian protection if they enter the country illegally. Judges William Fletcher and Richard Paez, both appointees of President Bill Clinton, voted to allow the asylum policy to proceed temporarily. (Politico)
The Daily Caller reported that the Biden Administration is spending roughly $7 million as part of a contract to expand an Immigration and Customs Enforcement social services program for illegal immigrants that prohibits electronic tracking.
In an article bashing DeSantis’ e-Verify bill, The New York Times admitted that several industries that rely on illegal labor have been forced to raise salaries to draw in American labor. “Tim Conlan, president of ... a roofing company ... said that hourly rates for jobs had increased about 10% since the bill was signed,” the article states.

The DeSantis-appointed Walt Disney World’s governing district has abolished all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. NBC News reported, “The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said in a statement that its diversity, equity, and inclusion committee would be eliminated, as would any job duties connected to it. Also axed were initiatives left over from when the district was controlled by Disney supporters, which awarded contracts based on goals of achieving racial or gender parity.”
Fitch Ratings downgraded its U.S. debt rating from the highest rating AAA to AA+ due to “a steady deterioration in standards of governance.” (CNN)
