The FBI arrested county circuit court Judge Hannah Dugan for helping a man evade ICE, seeking to deport him. According to FBI Director Patel, “We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject-an illegal alien–to evade arrest.” While liberal politicians and talking heads on social media were losing their minds, insisting it’s a bridge too far, the Trump Administration did the same thing in 2019 when they arrested Judge Shelley M. Richmond Joseph for doing the same thing. (The Guardian)

A new requirement forcing hospitals to ask patients if they are in the country lawfully has led to an explosive finding that Texas spends over $121 million a month in hospital fees for illegal aliens. At least $25 million was from patients on the joint federal-state health coverage programs, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. It’s uncertain how the rest of the bills were paid.

An Obama-appointed judge out of San Francisco ruled that President Trump cannot deny federal funds to sanctuary cities, issuing a temporary nationwide injunction. (The Guardian)

U.S. District Judge Stephanie Gallagher, a Trump appointee, ordered the return of a Venezuelan man deported to El Salvador because the government previously settled to allow a group of men to remain in the country while their asylum cases were adjudicated. Gallagher stated that the man’s deportation was a breach of contract. The Venezuelan national was arrested on January 6, 2025, for possessing cocaine in Houston, Texas, which led to his removal. • Trump Administration

President Trump signed an executive order to end the disparate impact theory, a terrible legal concept borne out of the Civil Rights Act, where practices can violate federal civil rights law because they affect specific demographics differently, even if no explicit or intentional discrimination is proven. So just because certain groups are overly affected by law enforcement or housing, it doesn’t mean it’s racist and in violation of the Civil Rights Act.

Technically, Trump can’t do much because disparate impact was codified by the Supreme Court in 1971, but signing this executive order will make the court re-examine the theory and possibly strike it down. (City Journal)

The Trump Administration is floating different ideas to increase America’s fertility level, which is currently around 1.6 children per woman. One proposal shared with aides would reserve 30 percent of scholarships for the Fulbright program, the prestigious, government-backed international fellowship, for applicants who are married or have children. Another would give every American mother a $5,000 cash “baby bonus” after delivery. A third calls on the government to fund programs that educate women on their menstrual cycles, partly so they can better understand when they are ovulating and can conceive. (The New York Times)
