The Los Angeles Times reported that the Biden Administration has announced a major change to border policy that will do nothing to stop the crisis. The plan is to adopt the Trump Title 42 policy which allows them to quickly turn back migrants trying to cross the border. The plan also grants humanitarian parole to 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti each month. This is highly illegal, humanitarian parole was set up for extreme cases when a foreigner had to stay in the U.S., like for a medical emergency. Former President Obama abused the parole system but this is blowing the doors wide open and will be struck down the minute a Republican Attorney General sues the administration.
The year-end ICE report had a lot of eye popping statistics about the department’s disarray under the Biden Administration. Here are some highlights:
Despite illegal immigration reaching a level not seen in decades, Biden’s DHS has slashed the number of ICE detainers issued for illegal aliens arrested for crimes and held in local jails across the U.S. The detainers request that local officials hold illegal aliens in their custody until ICE agents can take over custody. Fewer than 79,000 detainers for criminal illegal aliens in Fiscal Year 2022 — a 56 percent decline in the total number of detainers issued by ICE agents compared to Fiscal Year 2018. (Breitbart)
The annual bill to provide healthcare to illegal aliens detained by ICE is $324 million. This is roughly the budget for Cincinnati. (Breitbart)
DHS has “no records” for 350,000 border crossers released into the U.S. that the agency was supposed to monitor through its Alternative to Detention program. (Breitbart)
More than 1.2 million fugitive illegal aliens live in the U.S. despite having final deportation orders from a federal judge. (Breitbart)
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that he is suing the Biden Administration over their change to the “public charge” rule, Breitbart News reported. Back in September, the Biden Administration released the Fair and Humane Public Charge Rule which allowed legal immigrants to enroll in non-cash public assistance programs, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicaid or housing benefits without being penalized while applying for green cards. Under the Trump Administration, those legal immigrants could not apply for green cards until they had paid back all the money they cost to taxpayers.
Colorado’s Governor Jared Polis announced that he is going to ramp up efforts to send migrants to Democrat-controlled cities like New York and Chicago. NYC Mayor Eric Adams lashed out against his fellow Democrat saying, “This is just unfair for local governments to have to take on this national obligation.” Behind the scenes, Polis is weighing his chances at running for President in 2028. Although he was elected as a progressive, he has governed more moderately on several issues including COVID, where he was one of the first Democrat governors in the country to end their shutdown. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency ordering the National Guard to help process migrants coming to the state from Cuba. The National Guard will help ease the strain on local law enforcement from the latest wave of migrants from Cuba and Haiti to the Florida Keys and help “prevent further migrant landings,” DeSantis said in a statement.
