Immigration
Breitbart News reported that President Biden’s DHS is funneling $350 million into the Emergency Food and Shelter Program to fund support services for border crossers and illegal aliens arriving in various U.S. towns and cities. This comes after DHS has already spent $75 million “to fund costs incurred by localities and non-governmental organizations” through the program.
An investigation conducted by the Immigration Reform Law Institute revealed that cities and towns throughout the US are being charged $66 million to help illegal aliens fight deportation. The charge comes through the SAFE (Safety and Fairness for Everyone) Network. (Breitbart News)
Fox News reported that the number of migrants encountered at the border during this fiscal year has already surpassed one million. Of those, 87.8% were single adults. Just 328,454 were expelled under Title 42. There were more than 1.7 million encounters overall in FY 2021 and over 2.3 million in FY 2022. The first months of FY 2023 have outpaced those of the prior fiscal year. This time last year, FY22 through March 1, was 839,819 — well under the 1 million mark.
Hamed Aleaziz, a liberal but intelligent journalist, wrote an analysis of the new Biden Administration immigration proposal for The Los Angeles Times. The new proposal is similar to Trump’s safe third country agreement, banning asylum for people who entered through a safe third country like Mexico and did not apply. The most critical point in Hamed’s article is that this is a watershed moment that moves the discussion on immigration in the future. Biden is the weakest president on immigration this country has had in the last century, and even he is willing to change the asylum process to make it more like the way Trump had it. No Republican can now move to Biden’s left on the issue, and a lot of Democrats and the media are going to join him as it will become the “moderate” position.
The Biden Administration awarded a $1.17 million settlement to nearly 100 immigrants rounded up during a 2018 raid at a meat processing plant in Tennessee. The agreement is the first class settlement at a work site because the government used “racial profiling and excessive force during the operation.” (The New York Times)
Elections
The National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC) is crafting another major change after it was announced last month that they plan on getting involved in Republican primaries. The NRSC is set to launch a “nominees fund” to help ensure whoever wins the GOP nominations in critical states like Ohio, West Virginia, and Montana has the funds they need for the general election.
