On the premiere episode of “A Numbers Game with Ryan Girdusky,” I discussed that we have a new Congress along with a new year and sort of a new president. The 119th Congress is set to be one of the narrowest between Democrats and Republicans in history. You’d have to go back to 1916 to find a House where the majority party had a smaller margin; that year, Republicans had a one-seat majority.
This makes legislating and governing exceptionally difficult, especially considering all the different factions within the Democrat and Republican Parties. It gets even more complicated when you consider that three Republicans have either already resigned or are about to because they were given positions in the incoming Trump Administration.
All three are pretty safe Republican seats, but Speaker Mike Johnson will start the year with a 217—to 215-seat majority.
So, the two numbers I want you to remember when thinking about the House of Representatives are three and sixteen.
