I apologize to my readers for not sending out a newsletter this weekend; I took a much-needed vacation, hoping that there wouldn’t be any international news stories that forced me to pick up my phone… well that didn’t happen. My last vacation was the same day Gaza invaded Israel, so before I take another vacation, I’ll warn everyone so they can brace for another breaking news story.
Nonetheless, this post isn’t about my vacation; it’s about J.D. Vance, a man I have known for a few years and was proud to work for in the 2022 election cycle when he successfully ran for the U.S. Senate.
Vance and I started speaking in 2020 and quickly developed a friendship. He was very generous with his time and energy, even writing a blurb for the back of my first book after another revoked his endorsement because it could possibly hurt a future political career that never materialized.
Back to Vance: When the news broke that Sen. Portman was retiring, I phoned him and encouraged him to run, saying, “If you do, I want to be on your team.”
Obviously, it worked out.
